Choice of colors

Colors effect every aspect of our lives. As a matter of fact there are 37 million color receptors in each of our eyes. Each color has a different pathway to our brain, so each color gives a different sensation to our mind. Many scientific experiments have been carried out to prove the very fact.

In an experiment, people were put in a room which was led in blue and red. The person staying in the blue lighted room had his body temperature increased by 2 degrees and it made him uneasy and cold. It was found that people staying in red lighted room had their brainwave activity increased and had variation in heart-beat and sweating.

Some colours are more arousing than others. Red and Yellow are more arousing than blue and green i.e people feel more excited when exposed to long wavelength waves (red, yellow etc) and less excited when exposed to short wavelength waves (blue, green).

That is why it is commonly seen that colors used in walls of fast-food restaurants are very bright which speeds up the eating habit of people and also that they leave the place faster. These colors are also very inviting and make us hungry. Also the tables are usually rendered in cooler shades to give a feeling of satisfaction while sitting on the table.

The choice of colors is a purely personal choice. In general, it is seen that individuals gain a more or less concrete liking towards a color (i.e which color they love or loath) at the age of puberty. Most of the studies have shown that children upto age 5 are more attracted towards red, orange and yellow colors while their choice shifts to blues or greens at age of 13 to 14.
