What you see on the tin of the color vessel is not what you will get on the wall. For checking color on wall, apart from doing little dips and daps on the wall, go for long strokes so that you figure out how color will look like on the wall.
Prefer checking on the corner of the walls so that you know how color behaves in light and shade. Give at least two coats of the paint so that whatever which was present earlier dies out. At last but not the least, give some confident strokes to make the wall the way you want it to look like.
